Crews were battling a 60-acre wildfire near Embarrass, Minn., in northeastern Minnesota, on Friday night.
About 70% of the so-called Rahkola Road Fire had been surrounded by bulldozer lines as of 7 p.m., according to the Minnesota Incident Command System website. Two hours earlier, the fire was listed as 10% contained.
MNCIS, an interagency group that includes the state Department of Natural Resources and coordinates wildfire suppression, is overseeing the operation. Aircraft were being used to assist firefighters on the ground.
On Thursday night, fire crews knocked down a smaller wildfire in a remote area of Scenic State Park, to the west of the current fire.
Friday evening brought an end to the National Weather Service's red-flag warning in a broad stretch of Minnesota, including several metro area counties, but authorities warned that there is still a high risk of wildfires as dry, windy weather continues.
The dry spell is likely to be broken Sunday with widespread showers, the NWS said, followed by a cool-down.
