The body of a 92-year-old Blue Earth County man was recovered Tuesday downstream from where authorities say he often cleared ice and debris from a field culvert.

Marvin Borkenhagen of rural Amboy was reported missing Thursday after his unoccupied vehicle was spotted parked near a drainage ditch in Pleasant Mound Township. Those who knew him said he often cleared the culvert that feeds into the drainage ditch, which connects with several fields before connecting to Willow Creek. A tool he often used to clear the debris was found in the water near the culvert opening.

On the day Borkenhagen went missing, authorities said the water was flowing at a steady rate and was about 8 feet deep. His body was recovered about 1 1/2 miles downstream from where he likely went in, the Blue Earth County Sheriff's Office said.

His death is still under investigation but authorities said the incident appears to be an accident.
