Boasting outstanding room, a wide range of model configurations and plenty of power, the GMC Canyon pickup soldiers on into the 2008 model year with a minimum of changes.

Available with a six-foot-long cargo box and offered in Work Truck, SL and SLE trim levels, the mid-size GMC pickup truck is powered by one of two strong engines: a 2.9L four-cylinder engine or a 3.7L five-cylinder. Both are equipped with variable valve timing. The engine is connected to a five-speed manual gearbox or the optional smooth-shifting Hydra-Matic 4L60 electronic four-speed automatic transmission.

Drivers desiring a more rugged look and performance can select the popular Z71 Off-Road package, now available in both 2WD and 4WD models, offering distinctive visual cues to augment the 4WD suspension differential.

The Canyon's solid road manners start with body-on-frame construction. A robust steel ladder-type frame serves as a solid foundation for the different suspension configurations. Cross members provide excellent overall stiffness resulting in a smooth ride.

GMC engineers created a tastefully useful interior. The 60/40 split front cloth seats are comfortable, and provide a commanding view of the road. The center armrest doubles as storage space. The well-laid out dashboard features large, easy-to-read displays and user-friendly controls and switches.

The truck's payload capacity is 1,532 lbs. Towing capacity is 5,500 lbs.

The truck offers plenty of safety features: Dual front airbags, four-wheel anti-lock brakes, automatic headlamp control, daytime running lights and tire pressure monitor. SL adds fog lights. SLE adds OnStar communications system. Optional safety equipment includes locking rear axle, head curtain airbags, front tow hooks, traction control and full-size spare tire.
