TWINS UPDATE

Infielder Eduardo Escobar has a little pop in his bat, which he has been able to show off more with more playing time recently. Escobar started the first game of the doubleheader with the Dodgers on Thursday, going 1-for-4, after his first career four-hit game the previous night. His batting average sits at .324. "He's going to chase, and he can get a little erratic with it, but I don't mind that he can drive a baseball from both sides and he's doing fine,'' manager Ron Gardenhire said. … The Twins split six games with the Orioles last season, losing two of three at Target Field. … Joe Mauer went 10-for-25 against the Orioles last season. … With the two rainouts and the off day, the Twins' three starters are all set to pitch with seven days of rest.

ORIOLES UPDATE

Baltimore also went extra innings in Game 2 of its home doubleheader Thursday, against Pittsburgh. All-Star third baseman Manny Machado, who tore a ligament in his left knee in September, was activated from the disabled list for his season debut. … Steve Pearce, who was in spring training camp with the Twins a couple years ago, will take over at first base for Chris Davis. Pearce was designated for assignment by the Orioles on April 22 and claimed by the Blue Jays. But Pearce rejected the claim and re-signed with Baltimore on Tuesday. Davis is expected to miss at least two more weeks because of a left oblique strain. … Former Twins outfielder Delmon Young is hitting .333 in part-time duty.
