Courtesy of an Alberta Clipper, the Twin Cities could get as much as an inch of snow later this afternoon — just in time to aggravate everyone's commute home.
The National Weather Services forecasts that snow is expected to start falling in the metro, most likely after 3 p.m. Although there's an 80 percent chance of precipitation, the forecasters have slightly backed off on the amount that's expected to fall, saying it isn't likely to reach an inch by nightfall.
At 1 p.m., the weather service reported that snow already was falling across a wide swath of western Minnesota, progressing as far east as Little Falls.
Overnight, the forecast calls for as much an additional one to three inches of snow in the metro area.
That, though, is about it. Once again, on Saturday, as been so often this winter, the snow will dwindle to flurries and temperatures will hunker back down into the single digits, with no discernible snow in the offing.
Prospects for heavier snow are better south and west of the metro area, where the weather service has posted a winter weather advisory because of the likelihood of blowing and drifting snow.
