Two segments of roads in Ramsey County will be renamed for local police officers slain in the line of duty, Gov. Mark Dayton announced Tuesday.

A four-mile stretch of Hwy. 149 (Dodd Road), from the interchange with Interstate 494 to the intersection with Smith Avenue in West St. Paul, will now be designated "Officer Scott Patrick Memorial Highway."

Patrick, a longtime member of the Mendota Heights police force, was shot to death last July by Brian Fitch Sr. during a routine traffic stop on Dodd Road and Smith Avenue. He is survived by his wife and two teenage daughters.

Hwy. 36 in Maplewood will be renamed "Sergeant Joseph Bergeron Memorial Highway," in memory of the 26-year veteran of the Maplewood Police Department.

Bergeron was fatally shot five years ago while attempting to question two men in connection with a carjacking incident. He is survived by his wife and twin daughters.

Dayton signed both bills Tuesday.
