My Ocean

A prairie in central Minnesota will be the site of this event by performance artist Bethany Lacktorin and composer/musician James Everest. It involves an hourlong walk through Ordway Prairie Nature Preserve near Brooten — the site of Lacktorin's childhood home, which was once her great-grandmother's general store — with storytelling and performances by the My Ocean Orchestra and Choir, which includes members of the Prairie Fire Lady Choir and Twin Cities Sacred Harp Singers. There are limited spots for spectators so as not to disrupt the natural habitats that provide a backdrop. Performances are sold out, but there is a waiting list. In addition, there's an after-performance gathering at 8-11 p.m Saturday at Goat Ridge Brewing in New London, Minn., for a companion art exhibit and free concert by singer-songwriter and poet Ben Weaver. (12, 3 & 6 p.m. Sat.-Sun., Ordway Prairie, 31505 Hwy. 104, Brooten, Minn. $1-10. For waiting list, e-mail myoceansong@gmail.com or call 1-888-506-9623. Myoceansong.org. SHEILA REGAN
