WASHINGTON--Lawmakers are on recess this month, but politics aren't taking a break.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee this week launched digital ads against U.S. Reps. Jason Lewis, Erik Paulsen, and 23 other GOP lawmakers "in order to expose their roles in passing the House repeal and rip-off bill and refusals to hold public town halls in their districts."

The ads are geo-targeted and come up in a wide range of search terms relating to the politician, his or her district, health care and town halls. The ads direct people to websites that say 404 no town halls found and show how many days, hours, minutes and seconds have passed since the lawmaker's last town hall. The sites allow constituents to use Facebook and Twitter plug-ins to call for a town hall. The committee said it would use and promote the sites throughout the 2018 election cycle "as part of a longer accountability campaign."

For the first time in any district nationally, the DCCC also rolled out a paid Snapchat promotion targeting Lewis with a customized filter, and will be using the technology for events in Paulsen's district.

Voters can expect a barrage of digital ads on both sides. The National Republican Campaign Committee has put out ads of their own this month targeting Angie Craig and Dean Phillips, who are Democrats challenging Lewis and Paulsen, respectively. Those ads target Democrats' positions on healthcare.
