A woman was shot to death in Minneapolis' Jordan neighborhood following an apparent episode of domestic violence on Thanksgiving.
Officers responded to a 911 call requesting paramedics at a house on the 2600 block of James Avenue N just before 10 p.m. Thursday, said police spokesman John Elder. Upon arrival, they found a woman in her 30s suffering from a gunshot wound. She was taken to North Memorial Health Hospital in Robbinsdale, where she later died.
Police arrested a man at the scene and recovered a gun nearby.
"We believe this to be domestic [violence] related," said Elder, who declined to comment on the relationship between the victim and the suspect.
According to emergency dispatch audio, a male 911 caller reported that his ex-girlfriend showed up and assaulted him.
"Female is still on site after she kicked the caller in the face," a dispatcher relayed to officers.
In a subsequent 911 call, the man said he was waiting by the front door because she remained on the property.
Minutes later, the domestic assault escalated to a shooting. "There's a child screaming 'stop' in the background," the dispatcher said.
