Mae I. Berge

Berge, Mae I. Born March 12, 1913, passed away October 12, 2007. She grew up in South Minneapolis, MN. During her school years, she and her family moved to Detroit for a few years, and then moved back to Minneapolis because of her father's work. At the age of 16 Mae got her first job working for Sears. Mae and her family moved out to Custer, SD, to do some gold mining. During that time, her father earned extra income tending bar in Custer. He even served Buffalo Bill Cody. Her family finally moved back to Minneapolis, where she met Jenning T. Berge. They were married in March 1936, and moved to Connecticut where Jenning worked as an artist for Fawcett Publications. Mae and Jennings left with $100.00 to their name, and with a wing and a prayer. They lived for quite a while on pancakes and french toast. Mae and Jen finally moved back to Minneapolis and Jen opened his own art studio. They also did a lot of traveling. In late October 1979, they came to Arizona (Tucson), found the home they loved, and moved into Orange Grove Mobil Estates in April 1980. The thing Mae and Jen looked forward to the most was getting together every Saturday morning at the club house for coffee and donuts. She loved visiting with the many close friends they had here. Mae and Jenning celebrated their 71st Anniversary on March 28, 2007. Mae is preceded in death by her husband Jenning, and grandson Craig Benson. Survived by daughter Le Donna Benson; son in law Ed Benson; grandson Randy Benson; and great granddaughter Sabrina Conlin. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, October 21, 2007 at Desert Sunset Funeral Home, 3081 W. Orange Grove Rd.
