They raised four children (Scott, Ned, Andra, and Kari) at their cherished home on the Mississippi River in Fridley. Joyce spent her career as a kindergarten teacher for Mpls Public Schools, where she was esteemed for her creative and passionate teaching. At her request, her students called her, "Joyce". Joyce cared deeply about education, feminism, the environment, and animals. She was politically active in local and state politics; in the 70's she was appointed to serve on the Governor's Council on Quality Education. Outside of work, Joyce devoted herself to her family. The quintessential hostess, Joyce thrived on planning holiday gatherings and creating special family memories. During their retirement, Joyce and Dick enjoyed cross-country trips in their motorhome and also relished time at their lake condo up north with loved ones. A celebration of life was held on June 4.
