Smith, Michael Bruce 74, of Cottage Grove, MN passed away at his home on May 12, 2023. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, June 2, 2023, at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be held from 12:30-1:30 p.m. prior to the service at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Fort Dodge, IA. Michael was born in St. Paul, MN on July 26, 1948, to Virginia Smith. He grew up and graduated from high school in St. Paul. After high school he joined the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War. After his discharge from the Army, he began work with Burlington Northern Railway where worked his entire career, retiring as an Engineer. His hobbies included old cars, golfing, working out and taking care of his yard and home. Michael is survived by his cousins Joan Lara of Fort Dodge and Joyce (James) Shipley of St. Paul, MN along with numerous extended family members. He was preceded in death by his Mother Virginia Smith. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
