Ted Jones, of Provincetown, MA passed on January 11, 2023, at the age of 65. Born in Edina, MN on August 13, 1957. Ted graduated from Edina East High School and received his BA from the University of MN. Ted wrote for the Minneapolis Star and Tribune prior to moving to New York and writing on architecture and housing for the Times-Mirror Group and the New York Times Magazine. Ted also authored an architectural and social history of Carnegie Libraries ("Carnegie Libraries Across America"), which was published by Wiley in 1997. After his journalism career, Ted was an antique dealer in the New York area. Ted was an engaging conversationalist, avid gardener, and a voracious reader of biographies. His garden in Provincetown, MA was much photographed and admired, and Ted always took the time to talk to passers-by about his efforts. Ted was active in the Provincetown Community he came to call home, serving on the Historic District Commission and introducing a bylaw banning single use plastic water bottles that was overwhelmingly approved by the town. Ted passed after a short illness in the company of family and friends. Ted is preceded in death by his parents Frank T. Jones and Beatrice Osgood Jones, father-in-law John Petas. He will be greatly missed by husband Peter Petas, mother-in-law, Virginia Petas, sister-in-law Alexandra Pappas (Dean): and siblings Richard O. Jones (Louise), Betty Strong, Frank Jones Jr (Megan Maloney), many nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved extended family, friends and his constant canine companion Dash. A Celebration of Life will be held on May 6 in Provincetown. In Mid-June there will be a gathering of Remembrance In Minneapolis, with time and place posted later.
