Amy Grace Washburn Leary

Leary, Amy Grace Washburn 35 years old and beloved daughter of Barbara Washburn and William Leary, took her own life during the night of January 9, 2023, after a long battle with depression and anxiety. Amy was kind, loving, generous, bright and beautiful. Many were unaware of Amy's illness because she tried to present herself as healthy and happy, not wanting others to think that her struggles were greater than theirs. She fought bravely against her illness through therapy and many treatments. Amy attended high school at the Convent of the Visitation and Nacel International, and college at New York University and DePaul. She graduated summa cum laude and was selected Outstanding Graduate in Latin American & Latino Studies. With a minor in Chinese Language, Amy received a fellowship from China to study in Shanghai. She then worked for an international investment company in San Francisco and an international energy company in Chicago. She left Chicago, the city she loved, to return to St. Paul to be with family to attempt to overcome her illness. Amy was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ben and Sally Washburn and Bill and Bernice Leary, and her much-loved Aunt Patty. She is survived by her parents, Bill and Barb; beloved siblings Timmy, Nora, Miriam and Niall; her father's wife and mother of her younger siblings, Rebecca Hasse; many loving and generous aunts and uncles, including godparents Cathy and Michael Micetic; many wonderful cousins; and dog Sadie and cat Kuma. Amy was especially grateful for her friends who loved her and supported her throughout her life. Amy was unfailingly sweet and kind to all, and was always quick to support, compliment and encourage those who were fortunate to be part of her life. She had great love and respect for all animals, a practicing vegan from a young age. She also was a talented writer, both in her academic pursuits and in the written sentiments she shared with those she loved. We treasure the gifts she brought to her family and friends, especially her parents and siblings Timmy, Nora, Miriam and Niall. While we are overwhelmed with grief, we are grateful that Amy's leaving this life has brought her peace.
