Russell James 'Russ' Moore

Moore, Russell "Russ" James age 94, of Champlin, MN, died peacefully on Sunday, September 18, 2022. Russ was born on July 26, 1928, at Midway Hospital, St. Paul, MN, the eldest son of Sidney R. Moore and Adeline T. Moore. Russ was preceded in death by his parents; spouse, Loroli J. Moore; daughter, Dawn M. Moore and brother, Jerome "Jerry" W. Moore. Russ was a lifelong musician; he learned to play the drums at a very early age. Russ became an acclaimed jazz drummer and played at many significant venues locally and nationally, as well as being a teacher and drum shop owner. As a labor leader, Russ served on the Board of Directors from 1969-1976 for the Twin Cities Musicians Union (AFM) Local #30-73. He was Secretary-Treasurer from 1977-1996. He served as Vice President from 1997-2008. Russ continued to play well into his retirement. Russ touched many lives with his humility and humor. Russ attended Johnson H.S., St. Paul, but graduated from Mechanic Arts H.S. in 1946. He attended the U of M; however, was drafted into the Korean Conflict. He continued to play in the US Army Band at Ft. Riley, KS. Russ is survived by his daughter, Diane L. Moore; son, James "Jim" R. Moore (Theresa); grandson, Andrew "Andy" Moore (Ermalyn); granddaughter, Laura L. Conner (Brian); great-granddaughter, Zoe Moore; great-grandson, Amos J. Conner and sister, Mary Jean Vento. Memorials may be of donor's designation or to The Young Musicians Scholarship Fund c/o TCMU, 708 N. 1st St. #CR 31 Mpls., MN 55401. Private interment to be held at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
