Roberts, William A. of Hamel, MN passed away on June 15th after a brief battle with kidney cancer. Bill was born on August 20, 1945 to Thomas and Phoebe Roberts in Ironwood, MI. After graduating from Cass Lake, MN HS, he served in the Navy aboard the submarine USS Grenadier. He graduated from Bemidji St. with a degree in industrial arts education. After 3 years of teaching, he left to work in manufacturing before spending several years as "Handyman Bill." In 1973 he married Karen Egeland. They lived in Cokato, MN several years before moving to Hamel, MN where they have lived over 30 years. Bill was proud of his military service. He served as commander of the Hamel American Legion and proud member of their honor guard. He was a long-time member of the Lion's Club. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time traveling in his RV throughout the US and Canada. He loved to spend his winters in Mesa, AZ woodcarving. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Tom. He is survived by his wife Karen, his son Kevin (Kate Elliott), his daughter Jen (Brent) Bachman, and grandchildren Isaac, Nathaniel, Gunnar, and Annelise. He is also survived by his brothers Russel (Suzanne), Rick (Deb), sister-in-law Evelyn Roberts, and brother-in-law Paul Egeland, as well as many nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be held 11 am July 23rd (visitation at 10) at Lord of Life Lutheran Church of Maple Grove, MN. Memorials preferred to MACV (MN Assistance Council for Veterans) or your local food bank.
