Rasmusson, Wilton M. was a long-time resident of New Brighton, MN and before that of Northeast Minneapolis.

Wilton was born on April 17, 1919 in Sunburg, MN to Ole and Alma (Torgerson) Rasmusson and was one of fifteen children.

Wilton passed away peacefully on Friday, August 6th at the age of 102 with his granddaughter and other family by his side. He is terribly missed by his family and so many others.

Wilton would meet the love of his life, Doris, on his first day back in Minnesota after returning from WWII. They wed on June 8, 1946 and shared 74 years together in marriage.

Wilton and Doris worked together to build a beautiful life and legacy.

Wilton was drafted into WWII in 1942 and was asked if he would volunteer for a dangerous overseas mission, which he said yes to. His volunteering led to being a paratrooper and part of the O.S.S. (Office of Strategic Services), the pre-cursor to the C.I.A., as a spy. Wilton spent his time in the O.S.S. in Europe. Wilton was honorably discharged shortly after WWII ended.

Upon returning to Minnesota, Wilton worked for the Chicago and North Western railroad for 37 years.

Wilton and Doris had one son, Greg, and one granddaughter, Amber, both of whom he adored dearly.

Wilton loved gardening, his favorite flower being roses, a nice brandy or champagne, watching and listening to Lawrence Welk, dancing with his wife, traveling (especially cruises), and telling stories from days gone by.

Wilton was preceded in death by his wife Doris; parents Ole and Alma; and 13 brothers and sisters.

Wilton is survived by his granddaughter Amber (Dan) Rasmusson; son Greg (Iva) Rasmusson; and brother Walter Rasmusson of Fort Collins, Colorado; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.

We would like to thank the staff at the Landmark of Fridley for taking great care of Wilton.

We will be celebrating both Doris and Wilton's life on Thursday, October 7th at the Northeast Washburn-McReavy chapel, 2901 Johnson St NE, Minneapolis.

Visitation starts at 9:30am followed by the funeral at 10:00am. Interment for Wilton will be at Fort Snelling immediately after.
