Doris Maxine Schmig

Schmig, Doris Maxine age 91 of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota died Friday, July 16, 2021, at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale. Mass of Christian burial will take place at 10 am on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at the Saint Raphael Catholic Church at 7201 Bass Lake Road in New Hope. Father Nick Hagen will celebrate the Mass, and burial will take place in the Gethsemane Cemetery at 8151 North 42nd Avenue in New Hope. Visitation will be from 8:30-10:00 am on Tuesday at the Saint Raphael Catholic Church. The Minnesota Valley Funeral Homes in New Ulm are assisting the family with arrangements at this time. Doris is survived by her daughter, Kaye Williams, of Brooklyn Park; her grandsons Joel (Sydney) Williams of Tecumseh, Michigan; and Edward Schmig, Jr. in Elk River, Minnesota; one great-grandson; her sisters, Helen Rohde and Barbara Parks; and her brothers Robert Azarski and James Azarski. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Walter Schmig and her son, Edward Schmig, Sr. Doris Maxine Schmig was born March 6, 1930, in Marvin, South Dakota to Barney and Pearl (Wilcox) Azarski. Doris was united in marriage to Walter Schmig in Webster, South Dakota and the couple was blessed with a son and a daughter whom together they raised in New Ulm, Minnesota. While in New Ulm, Doris worked at Windings for many years and later at JC Penney's in the metro. Doris moved to Brooklyn Park to be closer to her family. She cared for, loved and helped raise her grandson, Joel. Doris enjoyed staying busy in life by volunteering at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis, baking goods for her friends, cheering her Minnesota Twins, as well as helping with Bingo at the Church of Saint Raphael. Doris also enjoyed collecting Hull pottery and spoiling her cats. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Blessed be her memory. Mvfh.org
