Quirk, William Joseph 4/8/1924-6/1/2021 Born in St. Paul, the first of 12 children born to William and Teresa McMahon Quirk, Bill graduated from St. Marks, St. Thomas Military Academy (valedictorian, class of 1942), and the University of Minnesota (math and electrical engineering). He went on to study and pass the grueling set of actuarial exams over a ten year period. A veteran of WWII, Bill served in the 95th infantry division (Patton's 3rd army) and fought in the historic battle of Metz. He returned to Minnesota pursuing a career with several large insurance companies with a major focus on pension plans and was one of the first group of actuaries named as Fellows of the Society of Actuaries. He later formed his own firm, Quirk Actuarial Consultants, which operated on the west coast. He spent his last years in Minnesota living at Cerenity Marian where so many of the staff became like a second family to him. Despite his advanced age he retained the ability to make complex math calculations in his head. His family wants to thank the staff at Cerenity Marian for the exceptional care he received from them. Bill was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Jim (wife Shirley) Quirk, Jack and Quent "Tom" and his sisters Maureen (husband Jack) Schmidt, Betty (husband George) Kunik, Kathleen (husband David) Shannon, Colleen (husband Bob) Healy and by his brother-in-law Tom Pahl. His nieces and nephews Bob Kunik, Patrick Walbran, Liz Healy, Patrick Quirk and Heather Quirk also predeceased him. He is survived by his brother Bob (wife Mary), sisters Pat Pahl and Sharon Walbran (husband Joe) and sister-in-law Marlene Quirk and 48 nieces and nephews and their extended families. A funeral mass will be held at the O'Halloran and Murphy Snelling Ave. mortuary at 10 A.M. on Saturday June 26 with a visitation one hour prior to the service.
