Murn, Dr. Brian F. "Bud" age 93, of Brooklyn Center, MN. He was born in Ely, MN on November 26, 1927. He died on June 6th, 2021. Bud was the third child born to Thomas and Mary Murn of Ely, MN, where his dad was a school teacher. In the summers, Bud's parents managed Basswood Lodge inside what has now become the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA). He guided guests from the lodge on Basswood Lake throughout high school and college and loved to fish throughout his life. Bud joined the Navy shortly after his high school graduation in 1945, and served as Seaman First Class until August 1946. Following his service, he attended the University of Minnesota where he earned his Doctorate in Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree in 1953. Bud met the love of his life, Donna Wimmer on a ski slope in Colorado in 1956, and they were married in 1957. Dr. Brian Murn was co-founder of Park Dental along with partner, Dr. Greg Swenson. The two developed one of the first and most successful, patient focused group dental practices in the United States. He took great joy in his relationships with staff and patients, and with some staff, the connections grew into life-long friendships. His professionalism, empathy, and kindness will be always remembered by those he worked with. He retired from Park Dental in 2016, at the age of 88. Throughout his life Bud enjoyed fishing, remote camping trips and playing tennis with his wife Donna, family and friends. He also enjoyed spending time at the cabin just outside Ely with the extended Murn family. He had close relationships with his grandchildren, ever interested in their life adventures and perspectives. Bud had a great sense of humor, sharp intellect, and was always interested in personally engaging others. He was a voracious reader, enjoying The New Yorker, consuming books and newspapers, including "The Star Tribune", "Ely Echo", and "The Twin Valley Times". He and his wife Donna had many treasured friendships in Minneapolis, Ely and at their winter retreat in Sandestin, FL. A life well lived, he will be greatly missed by his family and friends. The family is eternally grateful to all Bud's relatives, neighbors, friends and his caregivers for their special friendships with him. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Donna, sister Rosemary and her husband, Jack Neal, and sister Margery Johnson.
