O'Shaughnessy, Margaret Mary Peg passed away peacefully with family and friends on June 3, 2021, after a long struggle with ovarian cancer. She was born in Chicago to Alphonsus and Margaret (Hogan) O'Shaughnessy. She was preceded in death by parents, brother Bernard (Midge), and sisters Joan White and Ann O'Shaughnessy. She is survived by brother John (Jerri) and sister Alice (Bill) Grippe. She was the beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by daughter Mary Long O'Shaughnessy Blinderman in 2018. Peg is survived by Mary's husband Jonathan and children Jack Padraic, Bridget Moira and Elliott Sean. She was a dear friend to the Long family, including Mary Skahen Long (deceased), Mary Pat Case, Daniel Long (Debbie) and their children Katelyn and Brendan. Peg graduated from Trinity High School (River Forest, Il.), Edgewood College (Madison, WI.), and the University of Minnesota (Masters and Doctorate degrees). She supervised future teachers through the UMN/Twin Cities. Peg had an illustrious career with the Minneapolis Public Schools. She shared her expertise in many positions: classroom teacher, Title I Reading and Language Arts, District Language Arts Consultant, District Director of Curriculum, and Elementary Principal. She also taught methods courses at St. Mary's University. Peg was an officer and leader in local, state and international reading organizations. Peg will be remembered as a great and loyal friend and as an outstanding mentor for her colleagues. She was bright and articulate. She loved the written word and was an avid reader. She was a true Irish storyteller, filled with wit and charm. Peg made learning and working enjoyable and productive for the people around her. AND she absolutely ADORED her three grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. A private memorial mass and interment will be held in the future at the Church of St. Edward, Bloomington, MN.
