Kotsonas, George 86, of Minneapolis, passed away on March 23rd, 2021. Preceded in death by parents, James and Carrie; brother Ted; sister Judy; son James; infant daughter, Jana Lynn; and sister-in-law Shirley Erickson. George is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marvyl; two sons, Gregg (Vicki), Marc (Dimitria); daughter-in-law, Lori; six grandchildren, Peter, Sam, Georgia, Athanasia, Heather, and Brandon; brother Tom (Kristie); sister-in-law Fran; brothers-in-laws Jon Passi; Roy Erickson; Darryl Nelson (Angie); and many nephews and a niece. Son of a Greek immigrant, George believed in giving back to his community. As a young man he was active in his church and DeMolay serving as state treasurer. In Storm Lake, Iowa, he was president of the local Jaycees and Young Republican's club. In Grand Rapids, Michigan, he was president of the first youth hockey association resulting in the building of the first hockey rink attached to a high school. Other activities: coaching his sons in baseball and hockey, fund raising for the PTA, Boy Scouts, and serving as church treasurer while traveling 35,000 miles a year for General Mills as a salesman/district manager. After retiring and moving back to Minneapolis, Minnesota, George continued to contribute by teaching 55 Alive, serving as a conductor and treasurer for the Lake Harriet Trolley, and being active in various church organizations. George always found time to see his grandchildren's activities whether they were lacrosse or hockey games or ballet or violin recitals. George was soft spoken and a true gentleman to the end with his battle with Lewy Body Disease and heart issues. Memorials may be made to Mt. Olivet Careview Home, where he volunteered for many years, or donor's choice. The family wishes to thank all who helped George toward the end: the church friends, high school friends, neighbors, and Park Nicollet Hospice. Thanks to Uncle Darryl who brought an unlimited supply of chocolates and humor. And a special thank you to his caregiver, Jay, for his unending love and support. A celebration of life ceremony will be held at a later date.
