Haines, Rev. Donald O. age 82, passed away at his home on December 19. He was a native of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin and dearly loved Sand Bay, on Green Bay water, his inheritance from the Haines Family. He is survived by his wife, Miriam; daughters Lisa (Randall) Kolberg and Ann Haines Holy Eagle; sons Jeff (Heidi) Haines and Douglas Haines; 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandsons; sister Adie (Peter) Hegrenes. He received degrees from St. Olaf and Luther Seminary. In his years of ministry through the ELCA, he was a true servant to others. He and Miriam lived and served in Sask. Canada, Storden MN, Ishpeming MI, Wausau, and Milwaukee WI. After retirement from parish ministry they moved to the Twin Cities where they were surrounded by family. Don was a creative and thoughtful soul who left works of art for his family to enjoy. He encouraged all around him to think deeply, listen for the voices of the oppressed, and notice the beauty of God's creation. We will feel his spirit during conversations around a Sand Bay firepit, fish boils, and Packers games. His grandchildren will particularly miss his yearly Christmas Eve story. Family funeral service Jan. 3, 1pm at Central Lutheran Church, streamed online at centralmpls.org. Celebration of life at Sand Bay this summer, COVID-permitting. In lieu of flowers, send donations to the Central Lutheran Restoration Center, in keeping with Don's lifelong focus on feeding the hungry and welcoming the stranger.
