Mary Ann Gronholm

Gronholm, Mary Ann Mary Ann Gronholm, 83, passed away peacefully at home on March 12, 2020. Born on May 28, 1936 in Minneapolis, MN, Mary Ann was adopted by her parents, Rudolph and Ida Sandey, and joined their loving extended family when she was six months old. Growing up in her close North Minneapolis neighborhood, she was a member of Victory Lutheran Church and attended Patrick Henry High, where she formed friendships that were lifelong and dear to her. Mary Ann graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in elementary education and before the birth of her children taught several years of kindergarten and first grade. After raising their family in the Twin Cities, Mary Ann and Wally retired to their family cabin in Emily, MN where they continued to enjoy time spent at the lake with friends, family, children and grandchildren. Mary Ann found joy in many everyday blessings: an interesting book, a lively conversation, a loon calling in the evening, a good game of bridge. Above all, her life was centered on her relationships. She will be remembered as a loving wife, a caring mother, an adoring grandmother, and a loyal friend. Mary Ann is survived by her daughter Barbara & husband Mark Sundby; her son Chip & wife Julie; and grandsons, Jonathan and Michael Sundby. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 56 years, Wallace Gronholm Jr. Our thanks to North Memorial Hospice who provided support and care for Mary Ann and her family. Mary Ann especially loved the Christmas holidays and never failed to remember the Little Red Stocking campaign of the Children's Home Society. For those who wish to make a memorial gift, donations are encouraged in this season to the Children's Home Society of Minnesota, from where her life was richly blessed. A private interment was held at Lakewood Cemetery and it is our hope to hold a Celebration of Life in the summer of 2021. Washburn-McReavy.com Glen Haven Chapel 763-533-8643
