Beckmen, The Rev. Richard J. "Dick" formerly of Northfield, MN, died Sunday, November 15, 2020 in Brandon, SD. A private family service will be held at a later date. Dick was born in Chicago, IL November 19, 1932 to Harry and Stella (Webb) Beckmen. He married Solveig Maakestad on May 31, 1956 at St. Olaf College. He was father to Kari (Neil) Sorensen, Siri (Jeff) Sorenson, John (Abby) Beckmen, and Mikkel (Lois) Beckmen, and grandfather to Siri and Annika Beckmen and Anna and Jorey Sorenson. Dick graduated from St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN in 1954 and Luther Seminary, St. Paul, MN in 1958. He was ordained in June 1958 and served parishes in Reeder, Stanley, and Bismarck, ND. He was Regional Youth Director for the ALC in Western, ND and Eastern MT and then served on the national youth ministry staff for The American Lutheran Church. He concluded his ministry at Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. Dick was a spiritual director, author, and chaplain in the Order of St. Luke. He was preceded in death by his parents. In addition to his wife and children/grandchildren, he is survived by his siblings Harry Beckmen, Barb Miles, Connie Mampe, and Tom (Judy) Beckmen, sister-in-law Bobbie Maakestad, and many nieces and nephews.
