Lace, Dorothy age 93, of Richfield, peacefully passed away on October 10, 2020. Born Dorothy Mae Cole on February 11, 1927 in Madison, S.D. to Martin and Mabel Cole, she grew up in Sioux Falls, South Dakota with sister Margaret and brother Dick. Dorothy graduated from St. Olaf College with a BA in English Education in 1948 on the same day she married Verne Lace. Their 72 years of marriage were an inspirational example of love and devotion. They lived in Northfield, MN and Clear Lake, IA before settling in Richfield, MN, in 1956 where they lived in the same home for 60 years. Dorothy earned an Associate Degree in Music from Normandale Community College and taught piano lessons in her living room for 34 years, earning enough to enable all four of her children to attend St. Olaf College. In addition to being an active member of the Woodlake Lutheran Church Choir and Bell Choir, Dorothy volunteered at the Fraser School for students with special needs and was a passionate advocate for social justice with the League of Women Voters. Summers at Sand Lake were a source of great joy throughout her life. Preceded in death by infant son Mark. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Verne; her children, Joanne (Brian), Bob (Mina), John (Kari) and Margit (Mitch); her grandchildren, Kira, Anna, Arthur, John and Maren; her great grandchildren, Nila, Lila and Ezra. Dorothy loved to play bridge and any other game that allowed her to spend time with friends and family. Her kindness, compassion and delightful sense of humor will be greatly missed.
