Mattis, Donna Jeanne (Duffy) of Anoka passed away October 7th concluding a rapid and hard-fought battle with PLS/ALS. Preceded in death by parents Charles Duffy and Myrtle Duffy, Christopher Mattis (son), Zayden Mattis (grandson). Survived by husband, Alan Mattis, children: Tess (Tom), Mollie, Katie (Casey), Scott (Anne), Rebecca, Tim (Sabrina) and Mara (Chris), 15 grandchildren, siblings: Barbara Borchert (Robert) and Kevin Duffy (Colleen), cousins, nieces, nephews and countless friends. A graduate of Mounds View High School, Donna was a pediatric nurse for 44 years, with the majority of time at Minneapolis Children's Hospital. A constant advocate for causes closest to her: Vietnamese Resettlement, co-founded Parents for Heart, Anoka County Advocacy for Children's Mental Health, SAVE (Suicide Awareness Voices of Education). Strong in her convictions, she fostered teen mothers and special needs children, proud MNA member, volunteer facilitator for a Suicide Survivors Support Group and traveled to the border to work with the nuns serving detained refugees. She loved Ireland, coffee with friends, Diet Coke, a Hans Bakery apricot twist, her girl scout troop, hoodies, her little free library, family and grandchildren. She was determined to find calm, gratitude and joywalking The Camino de Santiago three times. Her laugh was infectious and her eyes held a glint of good trouble. A celebration of life to be announced when all can safely gather. In lieu of flowers, she requested donations to Stepping Stone Emergency Housing in Anoka in her name.
