Joseph Francis Akers passed away from pancreatic cancer on September 1, 2020. Joe was born to Elizabeth Francis Akers and Jerry Walter Akers on May 7, 1971, in Birmingham, AL.

Joe graduated from Auburn University with a B.S in Business Administration - International. Joe was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. Joe married Cindy Manske on June 10, 1995 and they just celebrated their 25th anniversary. The couple have two children, Sam and Natalie. They lived in Minneapolis for 16 years and were members of St. Philip the Deacon Lutheran Church, where Joe was on the Church's council.

Joe's career was primarily with Medtronic with numerous positions in various Cardiovascular Divisions. His final position was Sr. Area Sales Director - Coronary & Diagnostics. Joe loved his career and his 23 years at Medtronic.

Joe was a devoted and loving husband and father. Joe lived his life to the fullest enjoying music, concerts, reading, unique restaurants, biking, traveling the world, and planning fun adventures for his family. Joe earned Eagle Scout in Boy Scouts of America and later became the Scout Leader in troop 539 where his son, Sam Akers, also earned the rank of Eagle. Together, they attended all three of BSA's high adventure camps: Philmont, Northern Tier, and Sea Base.

He is survived by his wife Cynthia Manske Akers, son Samuel Joseph Akers, daughter Natalie Lucille Akers, mother Betty Francis Akers, sisters Cheri Akers McCoy and Jodi Akers Skaggs.

The funeral will be on October 10th. The honoree pallbearers are Dave Kincaid, Jamie Dwyer, Paul Mullen, Jason Sawyer, Steve Deters, and Kent White. The service can be accessed through Caring Bridge.
