Budde, Dean Eward Dean Eward Budde passed away peacefully September 5th at age 87. After a brief stint in the Army and 2 years of college, Dean settled into farming with his father Eward, expanding and modernized the farm making it a showpiece of both productivity and innovation, producing excellent yields in both crops and cattle. He was awarded the outstanding young farmer award in recognition. Tremendous energy and creativity showed in the many things Dean built from scratch, from a small early Styrofoam factory to complex farm machinery to one of the first pontoon boats. Dean married Marilyn Throlsen and they raised 3 children. He built a runway and hangar on the farm and owned 3 different airplanes during the years of his pursuit of aviation. Flying was a passion and he happily introduced many of us to our first flights. Sunday fly in breakfasts were regular activities. Dean was always up for fun and adventure, sometimes flying his airplane to new areas including Canada, landing and making friends as well as finding new places to fish. The family lodge near Bemidji was one result. Dean's generosity and zest for life could be counted on, bringing a lighthearted humor to the Kerns neighborhood. During his heyday rare was the evening that he didn't go dancing. Dean briefly attained national notoriety from the rural singles of America organization he created, holding get together events on the farm. Later years were spent on classic cars, a beautiful fish pond and residing on the farm. Dean was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela Fay. Survived by his sons, Lee and Bradley; grandchildren, August, Martin and Leo; nieces, Lynn Olson and Christine Hagen and former wives, Marilyn and Russian bride, Lora. A celebration of life fitting for Dean's sense of enjoyment will be set for late April or early May.
