Lois Obert

Obert, Lois It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Lois while at Good Samaritan Home in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. She passed peacefully in the night with her husband Bill at her side on July 29th at the age of 83. Lois was born in Platteville, Wisconsin on September 22nd, 1936, daughter of Charles and Hazel Hinkins. She grew up on the family farm, with a special fondness for her cat Timothy and her horses Flicka and Cindy. She loved to play the piano and take part in her church Christmas programs. She was the accompanist for her high school's choir and glee club, and the Editor-in-Chief of her school's first padded covered yearbook. After graduation from Belmont High School in 1955, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She was very proud to be a Badger and was happy that her children followed in her footsteps. Her first job was as an elementary teacher in Elgin Illinois. While living in Chicago, she met her husband of 58 years, William Obert. After moving to Edina (Morningside), Lois worked as a Senior Claims Adjuster at Lumbermen's Underwriting Alliance in Minneapolis. Later in life, Lois became the full-time caregiver for Bill, who lives with MS. She lovingly devoted her last years to his care. Lois loved her church community of Edina Morningside Community Church and the surrounding neighborhood. She was involved in the choir, the women's club, and was always happy to bring her brownies for any special occasion. Lois was a light to everyone she met. She was often referred to as "the nicest person on earth." During the years when her sons and their friends were constantly in and out of the house, you would be sure to find Mini Pizzas, and on a good day, Vienetta, in the freezer; and Pepperidge Farm Milanos and homemade chocolate chip cookies near the kitchen sink. Although located all over the country, family was very important to her and she would often be on the phone with her siblings, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Lois was preceded in death by her son Bennett; brothers Stan (Joyce) Hinkins and Wendell (Darlene) and her parents Charles and Hazel Hinkins. She is survived by her loving husband, Bill; sons Brian (Erin) and Brent; grandchildren Ian, Keira and Molly; and her twin brother Lowell (Priscilla) Hinkins. To honor her memory, please consider supporting these causes which were important to her and her grandchildren: National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Save the Boundary Waters, The Animal Humane Society, or the American Cancer Society. Lois, Mom, Sis, Grandma, Aunt Lois ...we miss you. Washburn-McReavy.com Edina Chapel 952-920-3996
