Mark Alvin Peterson

Peterson, Mark Alvin Mark Alvin Peterson was born in Montevideo, MN, on September 8, 1949, to Alvin and Dorothy (Weckwerth) Peterson. He was baptized in the Lord on October 23, 1949. He died with the Lord on Wednesday, June 10, at the age of 70 1/2. Mark is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Pamela (Bauer) Peterson; his sister, Mary (George) Gerken of Moorhead, MN; his brother, Brent (Bonnie) Peterson of Brooklyn Park, MN; and many other relatives and friends. Mark attended schools in Montevideo and graduated from high school in 1967. He received a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Minnesota in 1971. He spent almost 38 years working for General Electric. For most of his career, he managed the installation and repair of turbines in large power plants from Northern Michigan to Montana. Mark's first priority was always to the field engineers who worked on the projects he managed. Mark was a man of God and served his Lord and congregation faithfully for many years. As a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and Academy in New Hope, MN, he served in numerous capacities including Treasurer, Vice President, and Elder. His favorite "job" was being an usher where he relished greeting people and helping to make them feel welcome. He served as chauffeur to many of the elderly women in the congregation, and he fondly referred to them as his "girlfriends." Mark loved his 19 nieces and nephews and his 37 great-nieces and great-nephews. To them, he was their "Uncle Marky." One of his young great-nieces said she loved him so much because he always made her feel like an angel. Mark was as caring and supportive to the children at church. One of Mark's great passions was golf. He was on the golf team in high school and college and continued playing on golf leagues for many years. He made two holes-in- one (one in high school and one just a few years ago). He also loved fishing, especially with his brother, Brent, and joked that he caught the biggest fish in the lake the last time they went out in the boat. They also recently took up archery. When Mark shot an arrow into the ceiling, they decided he needed a little more help. Mark and Brent were less than a year apart, and they were "joined at the hip." They always joked about the mischief they got into as kids and remained best friends through his whole life. Mark was a dedicated, loving, and tenderhearted husband to Pam. He patiently put up with her ideas, hobbies, and collections. He was for her a strong arm to lean upon, a tender shoulder to cry upon, and a loving heart to rely upon. The last three years he suffered from several health issues, including heart surgery and bladder cancer. His example of perseverance and determination were a continued source of inspiration and strength for many. He didn't question what was happening to him and always assured us that it was all part of God's plan. He trusted that God would do what was best for him. His favorite Psalm, Psalm 121, gave him much comfort and peace. Mark spent the last two months of his life at JBs Homes, a Christ-based senior assisted living facility in Lakeville. The nurses and aides took care of him so lovingly. He died peacefully with several of his family by his side. Mark is now with the Lord and Savior, Jesus, and is praising God for his goodness. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and Academy at 4240 Gettysburg Avenue, New Hope, MN 55428. A memorial service will be held as soon as Covid-19 restrictions are eased. Washburn-McReavy.com Glen Haven Chapel 763-533-8643
