Galaway, Burt of New Brighton passed away on May 14, 2020, four days, after his 83rd birthday. He suffered with Alzheimers for years and recently COVID 19. Burt is survived by his loving wife, Nan, daughter Karla Moore and husband, Wayne of Duluth, son Andy and wife, Rose (Wagner) of Little Canada, son John Smith and wife, Leny (Gumba) of Blaine, brothers Bill of California and Dennis of Kansas, the late Rex of Kansas and Max of Missouri. His grandchildren are Edward and Kacy Galaway and Christine and Nicole Smith. Burt was born in York, Nebraska, attended Bradshaw High, Nebraska Wesleyan U, Columbia U in NY and received a PH.D at the University of Minnesota. He and Nan served as foster parents to 35 children over more than a quarter of a century and helped develop foster care agencies in the US and Canada. Burt taught for more than 30 years at the U of MN and the U of Mani-toba, Winnipeg, Canada. He was internationally known for research in child welfare and restorative justice and is the author of numerous books. He served two appointments as a Research Fellow with the New Zealand Department of Justice. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a future date.
