Shannon, Gerard "Jerry" Bennett For three decades, as corporate vice president of Springsted Inc. and later with Elhers and Associates, Gerard (Jerry) Shannon helped communities across Minnesota fulfill their capital needs to build schools, city halls, public safety centers, clean water systems, streets, bridges and more. He was a trusted advisor to his clients, an expert in municipal finance and respected member of the financial market. Jerry moved to Minnesota in 1976 after starting his career in Washington, D.C., where he served as the first compliance officer of NASDAQ. Jerry died at his Edina home, surrounded by family, on May 16 from complications of cancer. He was 77. The gentlemanly financial advisor grew up in Newton and Hyannis Port, Massachusetts, one of six children. Jerry attended St. Sebastian's and Newman Preparatory schools. He served four years with the U.S. Air Force. A chance encounter took him to St. Louis University, where he earned his B.S. in Finance and found his beloved Elizabeth (Buffie) Shannon. In retirement Jerry became an enthusiastic golfer, joining the men's club at Edina's Braemar. He loved his part-time gig at Jerry's Hardware as well as volunteer activities at Bridging, the Basilica of St. Mary and Minneapolis Veterans hospital. A loving husband and father, Jerry is survived by his wife, Buffie; son Edward (Ted) Shannon, grandson, Liam Shannon, Denver, CO, and daughter Caroline Shannon, New York, NY; brothers John Shannon, Kingston, Ontario, and Martin Shannon, Santa Fe, NM; sister Lee Williams, Craigville, MA and Belle, cherished Cavalier King Charles spaniel. He was preceded in death by his parents, George M. and Leonora B. Shannon, South Yarmouth, MA, his bother, George Shannon Jr. and sister Patricia McNally, Needham, MA.
