Duerner, Patricia "Pat" Essie (Loen) Patricia "Pat" Essie was born on February 28, 1927 in Fargo, ND to Carl and Essie (Hurd) Loen. She was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart Richard (Dick) Duerner on December 27, 1949 in Detroit Lakes, MN. Their union was blessed with two daughters. Prior to marriage, Pat started school at Moorhead State Teachers College because of the Polio epidemic in the Twin Cities. After one year, Pat transferred to the University of Minnesota and majored in Home Economics. She spent her early married years as a Navy wife living in Pensacola and Key West, FL and as well as Corpus Christi, TX. Following Dick's military career, they moved to Detroit Lakes, MN and finally settled in Minneapolis. She made her home for the last 62 years in Deephaven, MN. Pat was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority (where she made many lifelong friends), Wayzata Country Club, MEOW, and Wayzata Community Church. She was a Girl Scout Leader for 12 years. Pat loved painting, sewing, ceramics, home improvement projects and many other crafts. Pat enjoyed many years of travel. She cherished spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and her many friends. Her positive, can-do attitude will be dearly missed by family and everyone who knew her. Pat passed away April 27, at the age of 93 from heart failure. She is survived by her daughters, LeeAnn (Roland) Mena of Butte, MT and Cara (Glen) Broich of Mound, MN; grandchildren, Hunter (Lindsay) Mena, Stacia Mena, and Essie Broich; cousins Gail Gruber, Joyce Chalupsky, Camilla and Arleen Newman and Curtis Austin; nieces Leslie Broch, Karen Jefferson, Paula and Julie Gruber; nephew Robb Jefferson; and many lifelong dear friends. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Sunrise of Minnetonka staff for the excellent care provided to our mother and also for all the support they and Park Nicollet Hospice provided to the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Wayzata Community Church, 125 Wayzata Blvd E, Wayzata, MN 55391. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
