Dr. Paul Palmberg

Palmberg, Dr. Paul Age 82, Dr. Paul Palmberg of Minneapolis passed away on March 17, 2020. An innovative scientist and businessman, Dr. Palmberg's distinguished career includes 9 U.S. patents, 46 published papers, numerous awards for his work in cutting-edge physics at Physical Electronics Inc, a company that he co-founded. He studied Electrical Engineering at the University of Minnesota culminating in a PhD in 1965, served as a Research Associate in Engineering Physics at Cornell University, and technical staff for the Rockwell Science Center where he made numerous contributions to fundamental surface science. In 1970, he became a founder and the Director of Research and Development for Physical Electronics Inc. in Eden Prairie, MN; in 1985, he served as General Manager of the Surface Science business unit and then assumed the General Manager role of the Physical Electronics Division of the Perkin-Elmer Corporation. In 1994, he became CEO and President of Physical Electronics, Inc. where he led the development of an industrial analytic technique, invented instrumentation, and developed materials science and semiconductor technology. He was a valued mentor and professional colleague; a co-worker called him "the best problem solver I have ever known." Along with his sharp wit and skill playing board games, he was an extraordinarily kind person who provided much guidance and encouragement to those around him. Preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Ethel Palmberg, and brother, Jon Palmberg, he is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Pat Palmberg; son, Kevin Palmberg; step daughters Gina and Heather MacDonald; and his siblings, Carola Bratt, Carl Palmberg, Harold Palmberg, Evangeline Bratt, and Dale Palmberg as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
