Robert Dean Sherwin
Sherwin, Robert Dean age 85, of Edina, Minnesota died on December 10, 2019 at Little Hospice. Robert was born on April 5, 1934 in Decorah, Iowa to Lydia and William Sherwin. After serving in the Army, he attended Minnesota State University, Mankato where he graduated in 1958 with a degree in Business Administration & Economics. Robert spent his career working in sales and marketing for Allis-Chalmers and later used his expertise to help others at the Hennepin County Department of Corrections. On January 3, 1959 he married Joan Mary Prom. Together they raised two sons Mark and William. A husband to Joan for 50 years, Robert was a dedicated husband and father. He is best remembered for his decency, integrity, strength of character, and his unreserved commitment to the well-being of his family. Robert frequently spoke of his experiences, both hardship and happiness, growing up on the farm in Iowa. Keeper of family mementos and history, the walls of his home office began a story that he was always willing to continue and expand upon. At family get-togethers he would retrieve a newspaper article, letter or photo to remind us all of what we may have forgotten or to teach us something new about the family. Robert's guilty pleasure was new cars. Having more than a little experience with unreliable vehicles in his youth, it seemed Robert was determined to never own a lemon again. He was a Cadillac man to the end. Robert is survived by his son, William; niece, Sarah (Mitchell) Aldinger; nephew, David Sherwin; and sisters-in-law Constance Johnston and Alice Engdahl. Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Joan; son, Mark; his parents; his brother; and his nephew Benjamin Johnston. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 13, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Edina Community Lutheran Church, 4113 W 54th Street, Edina, Minnesota. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Fraser Autism Center of Excellence, 2400 W. 64th Street, Minneapolis, Minnesota, 55423.
