Donald Harry Schneider

Schneider, Donald Harry age 93, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on New Year's Eve. He was born in Chicago, IL and raised in Rochester, MN. Don was a Corporal in the US Army Air Corp during WWII where he served in the Asiatic Pacific theater. Don married Shirley Plank in 1948. He attended Iowa State University in Ames where he received his degree in Civil Engineering. Don began his career in Bemidji and Detroit Lakes before moving to Deephaven. In his career, he managed many Twin Cities construction projects including the Metrodome. After being widowed, Don was blessed to connect with Alyce Hector, a long time acquaintance from St. Therese of Deephaven, where they both were faithful members for many years. They were married in 1999 and this union provided Don with a second loving family. Don was very active in his retirement years where he enjoyed tennis, bridge, wintering in Panama City Beach, FL.. .and golf. Don was such a golf enthusiast that he worked as a starter at Deer Run into his 90s for his greens fees. Preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley; grandson, Kirk; his parents, Harry and Marie; and brother, Jim. He is survived by his wife, Alyce (Hector); children, Vicki (Cal) Lindberg, Steve (Joni) Schneider, John (Jackie) Schneider, and Patti (Bob) Manning; step-children, Ronnie (Dennis) Ferguson, Susan (Dick) Woulfe, Mark (Bonnie) Hector, Lizbeth (Mike) Stewart and Chris (Nancy) Hector. He leaves a legacy of 10 grandchildren, 12 step-grandchildren; 5 great- grandchildren; 14 step-great- grandchildren; and 5 step-great- great grandchildren. Mass of Christian burial Thursday, January 9, 2020 at 11:00 at St. Therese Catholic Church, 18323 Minnetonka Blvd., Deephaven, MN 55391. Visitation Thursday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery for the family.
