Peterson, Carolyn Cory 93, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2019. A memorial service will be held in spring 2020. Carolyn was born and resided in Minneapolis and then retired to Alexandria, Minnesota. In 2004, she and her husband, Paul, moved to New Jersey. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul C. Peterson. Survived by her 4 children Cory Peterson, Michael (& Rose Judge) Peterson, Mark (& Greta Pratt) Peterson, and Susan (& Dan Daily) Peterson; and 7 grandchildren Sean (& Sarah), Matthew, Christopher, Jack (& Ana), Axel, Carolyn, and Rose. She graduated from Washburn High School and received a bachelor's degree from Macalester College and a Master's degree from the University of Minnesota. She started an emergency overnight homeless shelter at Simpson United Methodist Church in 1982. Renamed Simpson Housing Services, it has become a leading non-profit providing shelter and support services to those who experience homelessness. In 1984, Carolyn received the Distinguished Citizen Award from Macalester College honoring her for her leadership and service to her community. Carolyn loved life and had a strong faith. She touched all with her loving and caring nature, humor and intelligence, and generous spirit.
