Maria Mandybur

Mandybur, Maria Age 93, of NE Mpls., passed away at her home on Dec. 4, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. Maria was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years Dmytro; her parents, Anna and Ivan Cehelnyckyj; and her brothers, Mychajlo and Volodymyr. She is survived by children, Bohdan and Vera (Michael), beloved grandchildren Katerina and Andrew, and family in the U.S., Canada, and Ukraine. Born in Stare Misto, Ukraine, Maria, Dmytro, and their son, immigrated to the United States in 1949 and settled in NE Mpls., where they became active members of the Ukrainian community. A lifelong parishioner of St. Constantine Ukrainian Catholic Church, Maria looked forward to the weekly camaraderie of making pyrohy at the Church Hall until she was 91. As a member of the Ukrainian-American Community Center since its inception, Maria enjoyed volunteering in the kitchen with other members to maintain the vibrancy of the Center. Most importantly, Maria was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She especially loved being a "Baba" to Katerina and Andrew who were the light of her life. Her passion for gardening, cooking, and especially baking Ukrainian tortes, continued throughout her life. Her family is grateful for the patience she demonstrated when teaching us how to cook and bake, knowing that whatever we made, it would never taste as good as Baba's! We will remember her as a kind, generous, and compassionate mother and grandmother, who had the ability to see the best in others. Maria's deep faith and unconditional love will be deeply missed.
