Knopp, Carl Fritz born November 14, 1933 in Nashville, TN, passed away on December 2, 2019 in Spring Hill, TN. His parents moved the family to Valparaiso, IN during Fritz's teenage years where he graduated high school. Fritz is a veteran of the U.S. Army. After his military service, he returned to Valparaiso to complete his undergraduate degree at Valparaiso University. He then went on to earn his master's and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL. He later moved to Arcadia, CA and co-founded Optical Radiation Corporation (ORC). After leaving ORC, he pursued various other optical and electrical engineering endeavors before retiring in 2005 from the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA. Fritz is survived by his wife, Valerie Jones; his children: Deborah, Fergus Falls, MN; Laura, Edina, MN; David, Minneapolis, MN; Valerie, St. Cloud, MN; Peter (Margaret), Pleasanton, CA; Matthew (Mary Lou Leitschuh), Minneapolis, MN; Andrew (Kathy), Mooreville, MS; and Amy Jones, St. Paul, MN; sister, Margaret (Alan) Graebner, Sequim, WA; brother, William, Lincoln, NE; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Dorinda (Hollinshead) Knopp. A memorial service and interment will be held at a future date.
