Catherine E. (Kay Barrett) Samuelson

Samuelson, Catherine E. (Kay Barrett) Our family's matriarch died on October 12, 2019 surrounded by her family. Her vivaciousness, sharp-intellect, and discerning manner made her a fun wife, a trustworthy sister, an attractive friend, a supportive mother, and a loving grandmother. Kay enjoyed theatre, gardening, traveling, walking with friends, her book club and bridge group. Kay's infectious love of song led to her co-founding the community sing-along at Loring Park. Kay lived a life committed to justice, from marching to end the war in Vietnam to working to defeat the 2012 proposed ban on gay marriage. Kay grew up in the Village of Webster, New York, graduated from Nazareth College of Rochester in 1961, married in 1962, and moved to Minneapolis at the age of 35. Kay was born on Nov. 24, 1939, into a proud Irish-Catholic family. Kay is preceded in death by her loving parents, Gerald R and Hilda McNamara Barrett, her brother Patrick and her sister Mary. She is survived by her Barrett siblings, John (Lynn), Dennis (Jan), Eileen, Tom (Judy), and Joe (Andrea). Kay is deeply missed by her beloved husband of 57 years, J. David Samuelson, and her children, Ann (Conrad) Smith, Ellen (Steven) Young Jim (Sana) Samuelson and Karen (Jeffrey) Bair and her nine granddaughters, Eleanor and Margaret Smith; Abigail, Anna, and Sally Young; Clara Rose Samuelson; Evalyn, Mary, and Catherine Bair.
