Mertz, Kathryn A. Age 81 of Edina passed away peacefully on July 3, 2019. Survived by husband of 54 years, Donald; brothers Jon (Julie) Clementson, Kevin (Martha) Clementson; sister Karen (Gary) Wingate; brother-inlaw Brian Mertz; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends Preceded in death by son Jon Clement Mertz and parents Clarence and Helen Clementson. Kathryn was born and raised in Erskine, Minnesota. She graduated from the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston, MN, then went on to graduate from Bemidji State University and, after being a wonderful mother for Jon, earned a Masters Degree in Learning Disabilities & Early Childhood from Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago. She was a loving, caring person who enjoyed sharing her talents and enthusiasm with young children throughout her teaching career, and later by directing Nursery Schools in Illinois and Minnesota. After retirement Kathryn stayed active volunteering at church and in the community. She also traveled the world with her husband Don, seeing old friends and making new ones in Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, Grand Marais and Palm Springs. The family is grateful for the care she received in her last months from the Park Nicollet Hospice Team & Parkshore Assisted Living. Memorial service 11:00 AM Saturday, July 27 with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM at Edina Community Lutheran Church, 4113 West 54th St., Edina. Interment Lakewood Cemetery. Memorials preferred to the Jon Clement Mertz Scholarship for Innovation in Healthcare at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health.
