A driver's last second-lane change led to a motorcyclist crashing while trying to avoid a collision and dying on a Brooklyn Center freeway, authorities said.

The wreck occurred shortly after 1:30 p.m. Sunday on Interstate 694 near the junction with Hwy. 100, the State Patrol said.

The rider, a 43-year-old man from Hastings, was identified Monday as Jeremy J. Hackbarth.

According to the patrol:

Hackbarth was traveling west on I-694, where a vehicle heading in the same direction cut to the right across traffic in an effort to access southbound Hwy. 100. The patrol said it has yet to identify the vehicle that made the sudden move.

A semitrailer truck and other vehicles veered to the left to avoid a collision. That's when Hackbarth made an evasive move, lost control of his motorcycle and was thrown to the pavement.

Hackbarth was not wearing a helmet, the patrol said.
