A mother and child were found safe Wednesday evening following an AMBER Alert after they were kidnapped from a northeast Minneapolis residence.

The alert was issued by the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension for the suspect, Jafaria Listenbee. It is unclear whether he is in custody.

Minneapolis police spokesman John Elder said police were initially called about 12:35 p.m. about an "unknown problem" in the 2000 block of NE. Grand Street. Upon arrival, they learned from several witnesses that a man had been involved in a "verbal domestic" with a woman — who was with a girl between the ages of 2-3 — when he pulled a handgun, and ordered them into the SUV. Listenbee was described as a stocky, light-complected Black man in his 20s, 5-foot-8, about 200 pounds, who was last seen wearing a red jacket. They were last seen in the same area about 3:45 p.m., according to the BCA.

Elder said that the case was being investigated by detectives from the Homicide unit, which typically investigate kidnappings.
