McCain to stop and stump in Minnesota Arizona Sen. John McCain, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, is bringing his campaign back to Minnesota next month.

McCain will hold a fundraiser in Minneapolis on June 19 and is likely to hold a campaign event that day, as well, said Ben Golnik, his Midwest coordinator.

Details of the campaign event haven't been set, but the fundraiser will be held at 5:30 p.m. at the Hilton Hotel in downtown Minneapolis.

Although no Republican presidential candidate has won Minnesota since 1972, the state's voting patterns in the past two presidential election cycles lead strategists in both parties to believe it will be extremely competitive in November.

A recent Star Tribune Minnesota Poll showed McCain trailing both Democrats Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton among the state's registered voters.
