Questions continued to swirl Sunday around the fatal shooting of a 25-year-old woman, who authorities say was slain by her brother at their Chanhassen home the day before.
Law enforcement officials have so far released few details about the killing, which happened some time after 2 p.m. Saturday in the 3700 block of Landings Drive. The brother, 21, remained held without bail in the Carver County Jail on suspicion of first-degree murder.
The Star Tribune generally does not name suspects until they have been charged with a crime.
According to the Carver County Sheriff's Office, officers responded to a fire alarm about 2:20 Saturday afternoon on the leafy, dead-end street that runs beside Lake Minnewashta. Shortly after being called, they received word of a shooting at the address. On searching the home, deputies found the woman dead from gunshot wounds, according to a news release.
They also learned that the suspect had left the house on foot, but was still in the area, according to the release.
At some point, the suspect was said to have approached a pedestrian and told that person that he had shot his sister, and asked them to summon the police, the release said.
The suspect was arrested without incident about an hour after authorities were first contacted, the release said. No details have been released about the circumstances leading up to the shooting or a possible motive. A message left Sunday afternoon for Carver County Sheriff Jason Kamerud wasn't immediately returned.
The victim's name will be released after an autopsy has been conducted, his office said.
