VW may build plant down south

Auto Week recently reported that Volkswagen has narrowed the choices to one of the Carolinas or Georgia for a U.S. plant that will build an all-new car starting in 2010 or 2011. VW says the plant's first car will likely be a Passat replacement starting at about $20,000. VW's plant will build up to 250,000 cars a year.

Brand in Brief: Volvo

In Sweden, the word Volvo means, "I roll." As Edmunds.com recently reported, Volvo cars have been rolling ever since 1927 when the first vehicle - a 28-horsepower car called the P.4 - was produced in Gothenburg. In the 1950s, Volvo began exporting its vehicles to the U.S. From these beginnings, Volvos have evolved, earning reputations as safe, conservative and dependable cars. Like BMWs and Saabs, Volvos became an American "yuppie" favorite during the 1980s and are still popular in country-club circles today. Under Ford's Premier Auto Group supervision, Volvos are still trying to lose their "conservative" status with stylish cars such as the C70 and S60. Volvos current lineup includes the following models: C30, C70, S40, S60, S80, V50, V70, XC70 and XC90.
