The graphic above (and the one below in metric units) displays how much snowthe upcoming potent storm is expected to drop across the Northeast. It shouldbe noted that the map runs from Thursday to Saturday, but the majority of thesnow will fall after New Year's Eve. In fact, the worst of the blizzard willnot start developing until Friday night, then will rage through theweekend.Northern New England should top the storm's snowfall totals list throughSaturday with over a foot of snow. Strong winds will make the snow hard tomeasure by severely blowing and drifting the snow. Blustery winds will keepwhipping the snow around early next week well after the blizzard has come to anend.

Enough snow will wrap around the storm's backside to deliver around 3 inches ofsnow to Boston Friday night into Saturday. While not paralyzing the city, thatamount of snow could cause disruptions to motorists and airline passengers.

No accumulating snow is in store for New York City and Philadelphia. Despitethat, blustery winds and snow showers will grip these two cities as theblizzard rages to the north.

The graphics also display the lake-effect snow that will get activated by theblustery winds set to whip across the Northeast. These communities will enduretheir own localized blizzards.
