The bands of heavy lake-effect snow that shut down parts of upstate New York onThursday into Friday are dwindling away to nothing today. The local snowstormsare tapering off and ending as the harshest cold fades across portions of theGreat Lakes and the mid-Atlantic.Since Thursday, the localized blizzards have dumped 2 to 3 feet of snow throughnarrow bands in southwestern New York and also along the eastern end of LakeOntario.

A small area just downwind of Lake Ontario could get another 3-6 inches of snowbefore it tapers off this afternoon. A wider area can expect another 1-3 inchesof snow through the early part of today.
