Kanye West became an object lesson in theater etiquette on Monday after he pulled out his cell phone during the opening night performance of the Broadway musical "The Cher Show," prompting one of the show's stars to call him out on Twitter while the play was still in progress.

"Hey @kanyewest so cool that you're here at @TheCherShow! If you look up from your cell phone you'll see we're doing a show up here," tweeted Jarrod Spector, who plays Sonny Bono in the production. "It's opening night. Kind of a big deal for us. Thanks so much."

Whoops. Let that be a lesson to the rest of us that the actors on stage can definitely see what you're doing out in the audience. So it is that a couple of hours later, a chastened Yeezy (mostly) apologized for his gaffe, and gushed about what a great time he had.

"The dynamics of Cher and Sonny's relationship made Kim and I grab each other's hand and sing "I got you babe" please pardon my lack of etiquette," Ye replied to Spector. "We have so much appreciation for the energy you guys put into making this master piece."

But it turns out West may have had only good intentions, even if he almost disrupted a major Broadway premiere. According to TMZ, "a source close to Kanye" says that the rapper was actually so in love with the show that he was taking notes about it on his smartphone.

Plus, apparently, it could have been worse. The "source" also tells TMZ that Kanye and his wife Kim Kardashian were originally only planning to stick around until the first intermission, but liked what they saw so much that they pushed back their flight so they could see it through to the end.
